Alcohol and iPhone water damage

Hi, I am just having a curious questions. How come water damages an iPhone's logic board but alcohol doesn't?

They're both liquid :O Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am asking this because I am reading that it is recommended to clean your iPhone's logic board with alcohol after water damage.

Jon, you can use water as well, for as long as it is sterile (or distilled or de-ionized) water. Water does not cause corrosion, it is the "other" particles in the water that do that. In theory you could even use tapwater to clean gross contamination of any board, for as long as you get rid of that water immediately thereafter. It takes time for the water to evaporate (and that is very corrosion sets in) and you shouldn't use the device until it does. The trick here is to get rid of the water quickly and for that you use a high grade isopropyl alcohol. Alcohol disperse water quickly and will help to flush the contaminants away. Hope this helps, good luck.

water when it dries up rusts the board and stops the connections, alcohol does not, it will not harm the board in any way

Oldturkey good answer, I use distilled water and Elma Tec Clean A1 (electronics cleaner) in an ultrasonic cleaner. I drop the entire logic board in the solution for 5 mins then dry the with compressed air, then put the logic board on a heat plate for a few hours.
