Why isn't there a orange light when I try to charge my ps-vita?

My playstation vita was fine a month ago. The charger was chewed so I let my vita die. I bought a new charger but it isn't working. I used the charger on a friends ps-vita and it charges. Now the problem I am noticing is there is no orange light at all when I try to charge it. I looked on the web and everyone elses flashes orange when it's broke. Mine doesn't even do that. No orange light at all! Is there a way to fix this or no?
