I have damaged this component on the mother board (look). Any workaround?

Hi everyone. So I am kind of a brute when it comes to things in general, and I have managed to damage my MacBook Pro by acting like a smart @%^ and trying to fix stuff that wasn't broken.

As you can see from the picture the shielding from one component is almost completely gone. First it was only partially gone and it was working, but if the copper wire would touch other parts then the power adapter light would become dim and the computer not starting.

Now I have damaged more of the shielding after I cut a small length off the copper wire that was sticking out to prevent it from touching the neighbouring parts. This is probably where I did the dumbest move, now realising that the amount of copper might be crucial to the functioning of that component.

Anyway, if you guys can tell me what it is that I am looking at, the function, and if there is any workaround like coating it with something, I would greatly appreciate it.

Alex, "after I cut a small length off the copper wire that was sticking out", not a good idea. That copper wire is urgently needed. The component is a coil (inductor and needs the copper wire. The whole component is part of your computers 3.425V supply. You will have to replace it or risk further damage and ultimately complete failure. The reference number for the part is L6995 and it is a 33UH-20%-0.44A-0.455OHM inductor. Not sure where you are located, but try Mouser or digikey for a replacement. You will need to solder it to the logicboard. So this will require good tools and skills to replace.

I am writing again in the hope of acquiring a little bit of further assistance from you. Could you be so kind to link me to where I can directly purchase the exact component I am seeking? My own searches have not been so fruitful; also I stumbled over something that had the shape of a square not the circle which is in place on the MacBook Pro...

This one has all the right specifications:

Is this the part I need? :)

Looks like a BI technology HM66A-0520330MLF13 would be a perfect match. The shape is not quite as important as the package size. It has to fit between the solder pads. Get the BI technology datasheet from here and check the dimension between the contacts.

It seems that it is only possible to order 3500 units as the minimum. :s
