Front camera locks up after screen replace

Block Image

After a screen replacement. The front camera locks up. Sometimes, there is an image of light like it sees something but it still locks up. I have cleaned the connections and even tried another camera with the same results. Restored to factory and updated from 7.1.2 to 8.1.2. The only issue with the replacement, was that the new screen did not have the gasket for the earphone so I moved it from the old screen. Also, neither the old camera ribbons nor the new ribbon had any adhesive which I thought was odd. Is there any way that the new screen could be the issue? Is it possible to test the camera by plugging it in without having it mounted in the screen (is that a valid test)?

Yes, you can plug the camera cable while it's not attached on the screen. But you don't need that, it's easy to look through the front camera hole: you should be able to see the camera centered in that hole.

What you are describing looks more like the camera is not working OR the camera cable is not making a connection OR something is damaged from the initial repair.

You tried putting back the original cam that was on the old screen? You know you could use 2 new cams and both could be defective.

1/ Put back the old known working camera and reboot your iPhone (press and hold power button + home button for ~12 seconds, then release home button until iPhone restarts).

2/ If still not working, try:

2-A/ Power cycle the iPhone: disconnect the battery, press and hold Power Button for 20 seconds,

2-B/ Then clean the connector on the board where the cam's cable sits with a cotton swab dipped in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol, then reseat the camera cable (gently but make sure it is well connected), reconnect the battery, and test. Don't forget to adjust time and date otherwise the phone will keep searching for a signal.

3/ If none of the above helps, examine that same camera connector on the board, look for anything damaged/corroded/broken/part removed. If you see nothing wrong, you can VERY VERY CAREFULLY remove the black film that surrounds the screen connectors to reveal the small components, and examine them as well. Let us know if you see anything suspicious, upload a picture if you can.

EDIT: the picture you posted is not close enough. So I am not sure, but is the marked component missing?

Thanks, tried all of that but no luck. I have added an image to the post. As far as I can tell, nothing appears to be broken or missing.

It appears that the component that you marked is missing. Is that my issue?

tarafından

Yes you need to replace it, not jump it. If you can solder it I'll get you the details.

If not, I can point you towards someone who can. Let me know.

tarafından

Honestly, I can't even see it. If you can send details, I have local contacts who can repair it I'm sure.

tarafından

If your contact is able to solder those components, he/she should be able to determine the exact component to be used, or just take it from an old liPhone 5 logic board.

If not, I think (I'm new to this) it is FL_14 = 120-OHM-25%-250MA-0.5DCR

If this info is not useful, you can post a separate question to ask for help identifying the missing component.
