Lcd wont turn on after replacement

Hi,

before to start I want to specify that i've been changing iPhone lcds, batteries and whatever broken part for 3 years, and I never seen anything like that.

A customer gave me an unopened iPhone 6 with a cracked but working lcd, so, as always, I bought a replacement and went to fix it.

I want to specify that I use gloves and plastic tools to remove any part of any device, mostly for hygiene and security reasons. Oh, i've also done all software thing (restore, hard reset, win/mac, etc.).

I tried to use 4, yes, 4 different lcds (including an original one from another working iphone 6) and it just does not turn on, but itunes detect it.

I also tried to use another battery, but nothing changes.

On the motherboard, the lcd and front camera connectors does not seems damaged.

Do you have any ideas, i'm literally going crazy! Do you think that Apple will repair it (no Apple Care) if i'll perfectly remount all pieces?

I have an Iphone 6s its been repaired once by capital city tech in Tallahassee, FL and I dropped it two days later and the screen cracked very lightly mostly towards the corners you can barely see the line on the screen. 2 months later (Thursday) the screen starts to glitch and flicker so I had a friend of mine try to replace the screen. As soon as he opened the phone he says that there is glue on the part that the ribbon connects to the phone and missing screws so he didn't want to replace the screen once he tried to put the phone back on the screen would not turn back on but it does make a sound whenever I plug it into the charger. Any suggestions??

First, yes Apple should replace the screen for a charge, if you put the original screen back and it doesn't look like it's been tempered with; that's assuming that the damage is at the level of the screen. If the damage is at board level, they'll try changing the screen, then tell you that a new screen did not solve the issue and you'll need to pay a replacement fee for the whole phone. They'll consider that the accident that shattered the screen also damaged the board.

Second, I had an iPhone 6's screen that went dead on me today. I power cycled the phone (disconnected the battery) and it fixed it for me.

Third, if the above doesn't help, did the screen work before you installed the shield and/or did you mix up the screws on the shield covering the screen's flat cables? You could've caused long-screw damage.

Fourth, on the replacement screen you used 1st, take a look at the flat cables of the screen. Do you see visible metal solder points where the backlight of the screen attaches to the LCD flat cable? If you can see those, that's bad news. You could've shorted the backlight circuit on the board and burnt a filter or worse. In which case, you can see images on the screen but they are extremely dim (you need low/no ambient light to be able to see an image in this case).

If I have caused long screw damage is there any chance of repair? You have exactly described my issue, it worked until I replaced the shield covering the cables. IT is completely possible I put the incorrect screws in the incorrect place

Musonigirl,

The iPhone 6s does come with factory installed adhesive strips. That's normal.

Some repair technicians are sloppy and will leave out screws, that is not normal but unfortunately does happen, unless your friend misplaced them.

Finally, your friend either damaged the screen, or (more likely) killed the backlight circuit in his attempt to replace the phone. That's because he did not unplug the battery first.

In my opinion this now stopped being a DYI and should be taken or sent to a repair tech with Microsoldering ability. She/he can trouble shoot it for you. I recommend since you are in the States that you check @jessabethany's profile to find a link to her webpage and instructions on how to mail the device.

Ive got a customers ipone 6S in bits. I replaced a broken screen, for a while it had a few "light stripes" on the image but worked perfectly. Anyway to give good customer service I got a replacement screen and fitted it. Disaster!!! now the screen only occasionally turns on but only after plugging into a usb port to charge the battery. If i unplug the phone works until i power it down, and then try to turn it back on and the screen stays dead, Most of the time it wont turn on even after plugging into a usb. Occasionally the screen will flash on and then stay off.

Ive tried :-

re-fitting a known working screen

a new battery

a new charging port

unplugging both cameras / earpiece / proximity

but nothing has worked, although the phone is still working the screen remains black apart from the odd "flash" where you see the customers home page wall paper and the rare occasion where after charging it turns on.

Does anybody have any idea how to get it to turn on and stay on!

btw im an experienced technician

sometimes when you pull off the broken screen, you can accidently tear off a filter. there are many of them attached to the main logic board between the various connectors. They are barely visible to the naked eye and you wouldn't know that the damage was done if you don't have a microscope. If you get aggressive with a spudger and use to much of an angle to pry up the connector, you can do that. use a plastic spudger and keep the spudger as parallel to the phone as possible when removing connectors.

Update (11/05/2015)

if i were in your situation (and i have been a few times with this same problem) I would:

1. inspect the female connector for the lcd that is on the main logic board under a microscope. sometimes when you take the old part off, it lifts one or more of the connectors and damages it so the new part will not work.

2. if #1 looks ok, I would take off the front camera flex and try the screens without that. sometimes the front camera shorts out during a change and that will prevent the new screen from working properly.

3. if #1 and #2 are ok, i would take out the main logic board and inspect filters that run to the connectors with a microscope. if the battery was still connected during the swap you may have shorted one of the filters out the main logic board. Also, static electricity could do the same thing.

4. if #1,2,3 all look ok, I would replace the phone with one of similar value.

Update (11/05/2015)

if the phone won't turn on even on a charger, putting a new LCD/Digitizer on it won't fix it. There's something else wrong. Make sure your charger is working properly. assuming it is, i would put in a new charging port and battery to see if that allows the phone to turn on.

i should also note that when the customer dropped the phone, a resistor could have come loose in the phone and was just waiting for someone to remove the screen before it completely broke.

That's all true but holds less ground in the iPhone 6 since most of the small components around the connecters are covered in thick black glue. On the downside, if one of those components did get damaged or was pried off the board but remained attached in place due to the presence of that glue, one couldn't tell even by using a scope. One would need to remove all the glue if something of the kind is suspected

Did you ever find out what caused that to happen, because I just had the exact same thing occur?

If different known good screens don't solve it, you could have a damaged backlight circuit (iTunes sees it but no glowing light); could be damaged display circuit (iTunes usually sees it; might have glow but no image). Those two occur if wrong procedure is followed and/or screws are mixed up. Can be repaired but need a Microsoldering tech to have a look at it.

The logo come on and cut on when new screen replacement was first put assembled on as I was testing to confirm it was working-which is was. Then suddenly screen went black but backlight on. So I removed battery and re-assembled the screen, but since then there has been no signs of life on the phone. Its iPhone 6 (100000% not long screw damage as the EMI shield was not installed). Ive tried power cycling countless times and made sure battery was disconnected before any screen applications. I just dont know what the problem is :s

I'm having kind of the similar issues. I dropped ,y phone and messed up the LCD. I went and had the screen and LCD replaced. That night my phone started freezing up but then started working perfect. Three days later I turned my phone off and it will not turn back on. No sounds, no lights. My battery was at 87% when I turned it off. What could possibly be wrong with it? It's a iPhone 6S plus.

Okay so, I've read all this and i still need help. My first screen replacement was on my iPhone 5S. i broke the screen and it was bothering me. I had an iPhone 5S that my family had bought on ebay that everything worked perfectly but the phone was icloud blocked, which explains why it was so cheap. i decided to replace my screen with that screen. i turned off the phone, did the replacement and the new screen turned on but the touch was retarded and it had squares in the middle of the screen as if it were being pressed or something. i opened it back up and disconnected and reconnected the lcd, camera and the other plug thing. the screen simply stopped turning on after that even though the phone was on. i put back the broken screen and it worked perfectly.

i ordered a new screen on amazon and i got the wrong item (an iPhone 6 Plus screen) which was actually kind of perfect since my aunt's phone also needed a screen replacement. I did it again and the same thing happened. but on this one, i know that everything but the screen works. the touch is perfect, the phone is on, i'm sure the camera works.

I NEED HELP.

I had this same issue. After replacing a cracked iPhone 6 Plus screen assembly, iTunes recognized the phone when plugged in, but screen was completely black and not working. I tried several screens, including installing the original cracked screen back and still seeing the same issue.

SOLUTION: I disconnected the battery and the screen and examined the screen assembly. Noticed that the plate holding the camera in place was not exactly even. Unscrewed the plate holding the camera assembly. While removing one of the screws holding the camera assembly plate, I noticed it came out with a small piece of battery adhesive. I took the adhesive off the screw, and replaced the camera assembly plate. Connected the 4 screen cables, connected the battery, and the apple logo appeared on the screen.

That just happened to me and what I did was to open it unplug the circuitry of the screen and unplug and plug the battery. After I plugged in and closed my cell phone, everything started working normally.
