MacBook 2007 Hard Drive Failure, how do your replace

I have a faulty hard drive that needs to be replaced for my 2007 macbook. I am looking at the following steps:

1. Purchase new hard drive

2. Remove old one and replace with new one

3. Format new one

4. Add operating system

5. Copy data from old to new

Need help with steps 4 and 5. I do have Snow Leopard Install disks, assuming this is all I need. for step 4.

How about step 5, what tools are needed? Do I need to power=up the external HD or just connect to USB. I have seen a number of posts here.

1. - Here's a good choice: 1 TB SSHD Hybrid 2.5" Drive.

2. - Here's the needed steps to remove your current drive to put in your new drive: MacBook Core 2 Duo Hard Drive Replacement.

3. - If your current drive is working you can leverage it to prep up your new drive. You'll need something like this: Silicone 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure with USB 2.0 Cable. It will allow you to connect via your systems USB port your new drive.

4. - Once your new drive is connected externally you can then use Disk Utility to format it and then using the OS installer program downloaded from the Apple Apps store or via CD/DVD install a fresh copy of your OS onto the new drive.

5. - Once the drive has the OS installed you can use Migration Assistant App to move your user accounts, apps & your data over to your new drive. You can also use a 3rd party clone app as well.

Once you're set with the prep of the drive shutdown the system and swap out the drive. You'll likely need to go into the Startup Disk pref to select your new drive as the startup disk. You should be golden then! Good Luck!
