what charger do you use ?
if i remember right, the 3rd generation was charged with a firewire cable. some use a charging workaround for the older firewire generation - they use a 12v car charger for the FW ipod and connect it to those "Mini AC/DC Socket Adaptors" - that way the device could be charged

Yes I have this ipod, and it does take a firmwire cable. It will not charge on a usb one. I have tried.
