swapping starter from 88 chevy 350 to a 99 chevy 350

I do all my own work on mine.and my families vehicles but my starter is going out and my buddy had one off his truck and it was a 1988 chevy pickup with the 350 and i was wondering if i could swap my bad one with his good one i have a 1999 chevy tahoe with the 5.7 liter 350, i was just wondering if it could be done before i pulled mine off and figued out i cant swap them
