My mac display is dimming!

My mac display is at the highest brightness setting. It is about 5 years old, and I'm wondering if there is a bulb or something wearing out. If so, can it be replaced?

The inverter board is the part which needs to be replaced, a search finds them running about $130 dollars.

If you want an Apple ADC display, it may be less expensive and less work to find a replacement display on eBay or Craigslist. You might even find a larger Apple display for the cost of the repair parts.

You could also consider buying a new LCD - there are many good 3rd party options in the $130 range, and a new device, with newer technology, will probably outlast your G5...

I found an excellent take-apart at: http://mac-guild.org/display-repair.html

The class-action settlement probably no longer applies, as this model has long since been put on the obsolete list, BTW.

Good Luck!

Thank you David, you are right that it is time to get a new monitor, and truth be told, a new hard drive.

It's very difficult to replace just the CFL bulb without damaging the rest of the display as you have to strip it completely down to pieces.

BTW you don't have to buy the complete cover, and or frame assembled once you get the old display apart on the back there's size and type information that will let you order a brand new replacement LCD online depending upon the size a new LCD should cost less than $100 for a 12 or 13" CFL probably what's in a machine that old.

checkout either this site or bestbuy to see if you can recycle it, I know that bestbuy will pay you to recycle your used electronics
