I get a 1/2" vertical line that's blank towards the right side of pages that are full size. Smaller receipts are okay.

Since it took so long to figure this out I tossed out the machine about 4 months ago. I repurchased the handheld version and now I'm having the same problem. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way of opening this model to do this. Thus, is there any way to open this model and complete this process?

I am experiencing the following issue: "Double-sided scanning always produces a stray vertical line that runs for the entire length of the backside of a scanned image. "

The folks at Neat suggested the following:

''First, let's go through the cleaning process. Please select the link below for your model scanner and follow the steps provided.

For Neat Desk click here

http://www.neat.com/helpcenter/cleaning-...

For NeatMobile click here:

http://www.neat.com/helpcenter/cleaning-...

Next, you will want to calibrate the scanner with a sheet of plain white printing paper or the provided calibration paper.

To calibrate your scanner:

Open Neat, connect your scanner and click Tools>Scanner>Calibrate in the top right corner of your screen.

*Note: Please follow the onscreen instructions on calibrating your scanner.

Once the scanner has been successfully calibrated, please try scanning once more.

(Mobile Scanner - Scan with the image you would like to capture face down.)

(Desktop Scanner - Scan with the image you would like to capture face up, facing towards you)''

The problem still persists, so I am inclined to think that there is a mechanical issue related to the roller on the left-side of my desktop scanner. Not sure what to do next.

1. open scanner

2. at bottom of scanner there are two plastic films on either side of the bottom of scanner.

3. get some nail varnish remover(100% acetone)

4. apply to lens cleaner cloth (eye glass cloth cleaner)

5. apply acetone to cloth then wipe gently across the two plastic films on bottom of machine.

6. apply until no more dirt lifts off. allow to evaporate(dry)

7. calibrate machine

8. clean machine

9. problem should be fixed clear scans. it worked for me

Its a software issue. You have to buy the subscription by paying a monthly charge of mim $13.00

Thanks! For the amount of time I use the scanner vs the number of scans I do per month, it's not worth $13/month.

I've moved on to a company that will sell me software the old fashioned way -- actually selling it to me, not dipping into my wallet every month.

Same issue. Doesn't fix it. Not sure what to do. Is it time to throw it out? What's the deal?

Mine was doing the same thing and I cleaned and cleaned and clean with no result. Finally I decided to gently lift up the 1/2" piece of plastic that covers the front of page scanning glass and ran my finger of all things (I had just washed and dried my hands so no oil build up) down the length of the plastic and noticed some dust had built up on my finger by doing so. This was a bit tricky because that plastic cover fits tight against the glass. THAT is what finally fixed my line issue.

Thanks for the advice but I cannot figure out which piece of plastic your are referring to.  Can you take a photo or describe more specifically.  I cannot seem to lift up the plastic covers on the horizontal glass bar.  Is it the cover over the bar on the base of the machine or on the cover of the machine.  Thanks

I did figure out what piece of plastic that you were referring to and cleaned it. It did have dust buildup on it bu did not fix my problem. My front page has a 3 inch blank column down center of page.

I am experiencing the same issue. I have cleaned my scanner to the point it looks brand new. That flimsy piece of plastic Chris is referring to is above the large roller. It is actually attached to a removable piece that unhinges when you squeeze the two tabs next to the divots at the base of the large roller. I thoroughly cleaned everything. The grey markings that are on this particular scan seem to be of a different quality than markings from dirt scans i have had in the past. It makes me wonder if it is a software issue?

I have a Neat Desktop scanner running Neat’s 5.7 desktop software under Windows 10. I have an interesting issue.

If I scan a document, the post-scan image shows a 2” - 3” band running top-to-bottom along the left hand side of every page.

Here’s the interesting twist …

My Neat scanning software defaults to assuming whatever document is being scanned is a RECEIPT. So,

  1. Place document in scanner
  2. Click SCAN
  3. Document scans, processes and is imported into the “Documents” folder.
  4. Click on the scanned document,
  5. Image is clear.
  6. “Type” dialog box has defaulted to RECEIPT.
  7. Click on “Type” and change the document type to DOCUMENT.
  8. Screen refreshes.
  9. Refreshed image shows a 2” to 3” band running top-to-bottom along the left side of the image.
  10. Switch “Type” back to RECEIPT.
  11. Screen refreshes.
  12. Refreshed image shows a clean document - no band.

Then, I tried this:

  1. Before scanning document, change “type” to DOCUMENT.
  2. Scan document.
  3. Image shows a 2” to 3” band top-to-bottom along the left side of the document.
  4. Click on “Type” and change the document type to RECEIPT.
  5. Screen refreshes.
  6. Refreshed image shows a 2” to 3” band running top-to-bottom along the left side of the image.
  7. Switch “Type” back to DOCUMENT.
  8. Screen refreshes.
  9. Refreshed image shows a 2” to 3” band running top-to-bottom along the left side of the image.

I’ve followed the cleaning and re-calibration procedures as provided by Neat, and I did the extra cleaning procedures you all suggested, then re-calibrated.

The first scan after re-calibration comes through clean, but the 2” to 3” band reappears on subsequent scans.

Suggestions? Software setting issue? Or, is this scanner toast?

Thanks!
