Why are the Mode and Contrast changing automatically?

Why does the 'mode' keep changing from 'standard' to 'dynamic'? When this happens the 'contrast' also adjusts to 100% and the screen is very bright. Please note that just before this is about to happen, the screen goes completely black for a few seconds.
