How to get past forgotten passwords for lick screens?

I forgot my password that locks my screen from being opened once I turn it on. I just uploaded an update, and when it reset itself to continue the process, it locked me out. I can't get past the password page. Can I unlock or bypass without a hard reset or factory default reset and keep all my data and everything else ?
