When I try to use my HTC one to watch a video I have no sound but I know the speaker isn't broken as I can still listen to music any ideas how to resolves this would be greatly appreciated

This is too specific of a problem to be broken hardware. Fastest way to know is to backup your information and to return your phone to factory settings and see do you still have the problem.

First Of All Have You Tried To Turn Of And On The Device ?
Maybe You Should Try To Go To Settings, And Then Go To Sound.
Since Phones Have Different Volumes For Example It Has A Ringtone Volume, Alarm Volume, And the The Music Or Sound Audio.
Try Charging It All The Way And Check For Updates In Settings.

Yes I've turned my phone on and off a few times now and I have fully charged it it also happens with games and its strange because I can still use both top and bottom speakers to listen to music
