Mid 2009 Model A1278 / 2.26 or 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo processor EMC 2326

MacBook Pro doesn't sleep when closing the lid (after screen replaced)

Hello iFixers,

I have a problem.

I replaced the total screen from a Macbook Pro.

The lcd was defect, so i bought a used product from the Ebay:

A1278 EMC 2326 GENUINE APPLE LCD DISPLAY 13.3 ASSEMBLY A1278 EMC 2326

It is the model:

~VIN,MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)

When i received the screen i noticed that the text on the screen was 'Macbook' and not 'Macbook Pro'. The connection are all the same and the screen does work. But the sleep function doesn't work. If i close the screen, the light stays on.

What could be the problem?

Please let me know

Thanx !

You never know what you're going to get off eBay. This unit may have been opened and the wrong replacement glass put on, But you don't know what else was done. Frankly I'd return it and get one from a reputable parts supplier. The magnets that activate the sleep mode may be missing or this could be from a different user. Would you tell us why you replaced the display?

The LCD from the Macbook was broken and that why i buyed a whole new unit (see the link) - http://www.ebay.com/itm/A1278-EMC-2326-G... . I buyed the whole unit because of the quality. With the thoughts that the LCD is not ever has been separated from the glass. Hope you understand. Where are these magnets placed?

i replaced my macbook pro's lcd with one from a macbook from the same year. just like your situation, everything works just fine but it doesn't sleep automatically when the lid is closed. i'm looking for some specific insight on why this happens so i can try to come up with a workaround - i'll look into the magnets first

Magnets in macbook unibody and macbook pro are located in different positions and this prevents automatic sleep. There's nothing you can do except transferring the Lcd into a proper Pro case.

@arbaman - Correct! Wrong part.

The other option is taking it apart which you might end-up breaking the cover glass and/or mess up the bezel to gain access to the magnet so you could move it to the correct location.

If you mess up it will cost you still another lid. Best to return it and get the correct one.

To locate the lid magnet & Hall sensor use a small rare earth magnet and slowly trace along the side of the lid the two magnets should attract or repeal each other when you get near place a piece of masking tape to mark its location for the sensor do the same along the boys edge go slowly as you need to give the system enough time to go into sleep mode before moving.
