Hi shane, two weeks ago apple has released an upgrade to solve the error 53 related to a damaged or swapped home button. Just try again now to update with itunes and you should be able to restore it. Hope this can help you.

If there was no damage or replacement, check for Touch ID module power supply.
If there are Touch ID module damage or replacement, dead. Unless you convince Apple to repair it for you.

Error 53 no longer exists, and apple have apologised.

I got my parts super fast from fixit yesterday and changed my iPhone 6 within 10 minutes, I was so pleased even got a brand new camera, but is it so that I can't upgrade it now?
