GFCI still trips as soon as I press the power button.

reviving old thread.

anyway, I did a test for continuity and it is ok. I even opened up the boiler and clean the heat element and found no rupture. I put everything back and GFCI still trips as soon as i press the power button. Any idea what else I should check? machine was working then after descaling, the tripping of gfci happened. I am about to work on opening up the pump and cleaning it too but would like to see if there are any other thing I should check. Many Thanks!

Ramen, try unplugging the hot lead from the heating element and see if it still trips the GFCI. If so, something other then the boiler is sending current to ground, you may have a frayed/bare wire touching the case or something along those lines. If it doesn't trip when the hot lead is unplugged, reconnect it and disconnect the neutral and try again. If it trips then, it's definitely the heating element and it probably has a hairline fracture somewhere that's allowing current to escape (these are not always visible to the naked eye).

Tnx. And yes it is the heating element. I removed hot lead and no tripping.

Hi Henry, I am having the same issue a Ramen I unplugged the hot lead (red lead on the heating element) and the breaker on the gfci still trips. However, when I unplug the other lead (white and grey) it doesn't trip. One other thing when I plug my machine into a regular non GFCI my machine will make a latte and will not trip the breaker?

Thanks in Advance for any help !

If you find nothing wrong there's one other possibility; GFCI's do wear out. You may need to replace the outlet with the GFCI built into it.
