How to clone 500GB SSD to a 1TB SSD

Want to replace my 500GB SSD with a 1TB option. But how best to Clone the SSD ?

I guess I cannot read from old and write straight to new, but would have to go through intermediate storage ? or can I? How might I connect both SSDs to the MacBook at same time? I use Time Machine and external NAS for backup, and though this works fine for file backup and restore, I've never tried a full restore.

I'm not into clone software anymore! Not to worry, here's how to get what you want.

First you'll need a means to hold your new drive so you can connect it externally. Here you'll need a special case: OWC Envoy Pro Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Enclosure For Apple Flash SSDs (June 2013-Current Mac Models)

Are you sure you have the correct SSD drive here?? So far there is no 3rd party options! Apple is the only supplier. Here's the tease from OWC: OWC Upgrades for: Late 2013-Current MacBook Pro Retina

OK, with the drive connected to your system. You'll first need to prep the drive using Disk Utility. Here we are deleting the FAT32 partition the drive has on it and setting up a GUID partition map and a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition.

Next, we want to download from the App store the OS installer (if you don't already have it on your system now). Run it to install a fish copy of OS on your new drive. At the end of the process it will ask you if you want to migrate the user accounts, Apps & user data over to your new drive. This is were the magic is point to your internal drive and let the migration assistant move things over for you.

Shutdown your system and swap the drives and thats it! You have a complete copy of everything you had on your old drive!

TimeMachine is perfect and works well when recovery from either a NAS or Time Capsule.

If you have problems you can always re-initialize the Mac through the migration function from old SAD connected to a cable or external case
