water damaged 4S screen gone black, won't display

My iPhone fell in a tub of fairly clean water and for about ten minutes it bubbled through the ear phone socket. The phone was retrieved and left in a warm room to dry out. Shaking the phone removed the water but the phone did not open to use. I connected it to my laptop using the cable and could charge the battery fully. The voice worked and it replayed. the volume control was also working.

The phone display was black; no display. How do I restore the gadget to work normally? Please help. Writing from India.

You will need to take the phone apart and clean it first.

Below is the tear down instructions.

iPhone 4S Teardown

Once you have the board out use a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol to scrub any corrosion from the board and they connectors that attach to it. Reassemble and see if it works.

If the display does not come on you will need to try a new display to see if it comes on then. If the devices display still does not function with a new display then the board has suffered some damage that would require a special equipment like soldering iron. Even with this equipment and the appropriate skills it's not a guarantee that it can be repaired.

The mistake you made was plugging it in, and leaving it in the water for ten minutes. The corrosion on the board is probably too great for it to be repaired (unless you go professional, but I can't guarantee that it will work). The phone is pretty much a brick now. My suggestion would be to go buy yourself a newer iPhone or a phone of similar or better spec.
