Are there any difference in the displays and would any one know it had been changed?

George: it looks as the 2013 and 2014 Retina displays are interchangeable but not with the 2015. Could be the cabling for the airport and iSight cables but they are different part numbers.

Nice to see you back on Answers ;-)

Thanks for the answer, Apple have quoted me £350 to replace the display...I've only had it 13 months.

You could always hook it up to an external monitor until the prices on used ones come down. Not ideal but a make do until you can afford it.

Does anyone know the manufacturer warranty on the panel itself? I am assuming its not actually made by apple but by samsung or lg.

tarafından

The manufacture doesn't offer the end user a warranty here. The supplier who sells you the part is the one who offers the warranty.

Or, in this case if the display was defective Apple would offer an extended warranty. Have you checked with them if it was recalled? They do have a recall on some displays as the anti-reflective coatings have failed. Maybe you can sneak it in.

Although they look nearly identical the 2014 display does not work on the 2015.

Can you please confirm and explain a little your answer? I have same issue, tried to connect 2014 display and it works but have backlight delay problem on startup, also screen remains dark if "ALT" is pressed on startup to chose the disk and with flash light i can see its working just no backlight, if i chose disk and start after about 5sec or more screen backlight comes up as normally, but OS is already half way loaded. If you please can let me know have you tried this or you know why its not full compatible? maybe LVDS pinout is different or LCD panel is different? Thanks

i have this same issue, did you manage to fix it?

tarafından

This is exactly the issue when using the wrong display! The displays ID is not known to the system so it will not enable during POST you need to wait until the system has loaded the display driver. You'll also encounter issues using any of the Startup commands as the intergraded Intel graphics engine can't ID the display.

Bottomline is you need to use the correct display for your system.

That means the electronics are the same, only the firmware is different?

Can I solder a firmware chip from a 2015 model to a 2014 board and all will work again?

How can you tell if it is a 2015 model or an earlier model?

DisplayID 2013/2014: A018

DisplayID 2015: A02A

Change DisplayID in EFI Rom to the correct one and the display should work.

Hello there gerikerschi - great answer, how would you go about changing the DisplayID in EFI ROM so a 2014 display works natively/correctly on a 2015 model? Both A1502.

The iSight Camera (Apple Camera VendorID_0x106B ProductID_0x1570) is the same model and works. I have testet a mid 2014 on a early 2015.

Maybe they switch some cabels in the LCD Connector?

What is with the WiFi Cabels/Antenna? Is it interchangeable?

Have tested a Late 2013 display on a early 2015 and it worked but just did a quick test did not plug the camera and wifi in.

While it may appear to work it won't work correctly! The DisplayID between the displays messes you up!

Hi all, so does a 2014 lcd work on a 2015 logicboard? is it operational except for the slight delay at the start. ie- screen powers on about half way through loading sequence? Thanks...

Apple went with a new vendor in the 2015 model and only that vendors display works in your system MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Early 2015) Display Assembly. Trying to use other displays won't work cleanly as the systems firmware won't recognize them during POST. So your system will treat it as if its an external monitor. This will cause issues when you try using any of the startup commands and during wake from sleep. Some displays use a different length cable which may not work in your system and the iSight cameras have also been upgraded over time which can also cause issues.
