Why won't my son's Nintendo DS read any games?
No matter what DS game we put in, it won't read the game. Nothing happens.

When the unit starts, you will see the Health and Safety warning and "Touch the Screen to Start."
In the menu, where the DS game should appear, it is ghosted out and says, "There is No DS Card Inserted."
First off, to remove the possibility that it is not something extremely simple and overlooked, try this: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/...
It might just need to be cleaned. this is the simplest starting point, and needs the least amount of tech. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4080144-ds...
Past that, you can try replacing the Slot-1 slot on the motherboard, replace the motherboard, or get a brand new unit. I do emphasize the cleaning first. Being a portable unit, it's in pockets, backpacks, greasy hands, who knows what... You get the picture.

Maybe try getting a Nintendo 2DS *and yes, it can play 3DS and DS games*
9/10 it's dirty contacts that stops a game from being recognized. I usually start there with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean those contacts. I also need to flatten the of the stick first in the q-tip to properly reach the contacts.
So does rubbing alcohol and a q-tip usually work should I try it
I got a blue nintendo ds lite for free because of this. They thought it didn't work. I solved it by putting a clothing tag in alongside the game. This is a solution that works for free. Try it before buying a replacement. Trust me. It may take a few tries but it works.

If you put it on auto, then turn it off and press the card in and out fast (about 10 times), then turn it back on, it should work. You also have to do the scraping thing.

Look into the card reader slot. If the pins in it are not bent take a fine emery board and clean them with short in/out strokes, move the board over and do it again - until you have cleaned them all. Do not move it side to side, you can bend the pins.
Try gently scraping across each contact on the game card with a knife blade, to clean off the contacts. If you carry the games around loose as I sometimes do the contacts can get dirty, and one or more may fail to make contact.

This could be a nubeeee comment. My wife just got a ds light with around 15 games, separate case etc from the charity shop for £10. Turned it on. Inserted game and it didn't see the card. With no instructions. As we all do, turned to Google and found this thread. So cleaned contacts etc, etc. Still not seeing the cards. However, insert a card and then turn on and it sees and plays them fine.

My husband bought me ds too and we are having the same problem
Hi there, DS Lite units do not functions the same as the DSi/3DS and newer units. The DS Lite is unable to detect a game when the unit is on and a game is inserted. You'll need to turn the device off, insert DS Lite and/or GBA game into the DS Lite, then turn the system on.
If you want to change games, you'll need to turn the system off, change the game and turn it back on to have the DS Lite recognize the game.

my ds lite will read gameboy advanced games but it wont even read a ds game. It goes straight to the screen of pictochat and ds download play. it wont let me do anything else.

@destinyr295 try taking a cotton swab (flattened a bit) with 90%+ of rubbing alcohol and clean the pins of the DS game slot. You've probably got dirty contacts.
What do u do when the cotton gets stuck in the game slot
try putting a small stick like a needle behind the game make sure its in the middle it works because it pushes the game down and touches the pin or pins that are too small

If you've check your r4 cards is OK? Maybe your r4 cards is broken and you should get a new one.

My Nintendo Ds lite Was not reading any game This is the solution I went to the DS turned it off and then I Just started to push the game in and out of slot 1 frequently about 20 to 30 times and then I turned on the screens turned white and it worked Oh I almost forgot you also have to put it in auto mode and wala therte you have it a working Nintendo Ds but the only down side is that you have to do this for every game you play but its worth at least it works though

What do u mean by Auto mode how do u do that? Also, I only have 1 game Harry Potter Lego & it reads it fine, I can even play the game but when u turn the system on the screen has the Harry Potter link at the top then the basic purchase & Ds download to play. Under that is says there is no game pak to play, what does this mean? I can even click the download to play but it does nothing but search forever to no avail. I know it's not connected to my Wi-Fi and don't know how to go about doing that either? I'm wanting to ensure the system works to download play games so I can gift it to a friend's son as my neice received a Switch and no longer uses this but don't want the hassle if he has to buy game cartridges for every game he wants to play. Any help in what direction I should go. Tia
