I have 3 MBP's which have different problems. I want to canobolise them to try and get one working laptop. Is it possible to swap the good screen form a A1121 model onto a A1226 model that has the dodgy screen but runs OK.

It does not appear so. The A1226 & A1260 have interchangeable parts. See the compatibility list on the part: MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1211) Display Assembly
