Water damage. Battery okay. Drive okay. Looks like MagSafe board?
Hello. Water damage to this system '08 MacBook Pro 15". Opened it up and let it air dry for 4-5 days. Connect power cord and 'charging' light comes on, eventually turns green. Battery seems to charge. Push power on button and nothing happens. Pulled drive and can mount it and see it on another MacBook, so drive appears fine. Mother board visually appears fine, although may have a small burn/fry mark. No other apparent 'fry' marks. However, many solder points on the MagSafe are rather dark with one that is still the normal solder color. Found MagSafe boards on ebay for ~$10. Seems like a safe attempt to fix.
Does this seem a logical and/or likely issue?
Per local repair shop, it is important to get the appropriate MagSafe board. Reviewing several web search articles, I'm not sure exactly which model number to get or if substitutions are an option. Any advise?
My MagSafe board = 820-2361-02. Web search indicates this may be A1278. I'm leery of getting the wrong one and sending voltage or current that is too high to the motherboard. Sounds sub-optimal.
Thank you.
