Knocked over coffee, Hard disk won't connect

Hello all!

Similar to this lady's problem:

Why do I have a blank screen with a folder?

BUT I am certain the hard disk works, because it has been removed from the laptop and tested on another.

So I can only deduce it may be the hard disk connecter? I have just purchased one and am awaiting its arrival, but not being very technologically-minded I wondered if anyone else might have some useful bits of info for me?

In addition, when I opened up the MacBook after I gave it a thorough drying, I have noticed odd spots of coffee-related debris. Should I wash them off with Isopropyl alcohol?

Yes on cleaning with the isopropyl alcohol. Other than trying to replace the connector and cleaning the logic board, that's really all you can do without having to replace the logic board or get it repaired. As with any liquid spills, the damaged is hard to discern and it may be more widespread than you think. I hope cleaning the board and replacing the connector works for you!

+ If you really want to clean it, take the logic board out and wash with distilled water then shake it off and let it air dry overnight.
