2004 caviliar won't crank does nothing at all

My car does nothing when you turn the key. Everything works electrically, just put a new battery in,still nothing, took the starter out and tested it,all is good, put the starter back in and still nothing. The car has been sitting for a few months and was getting started on a regular, then I decided to put it on ramps for exhaust work and all of a sudden it won't turn.

Check the ground is good. You may have accidentally caused the ground to be disconnected .then maybe check the starter relay, solenoid . See if you can start the car by shorting it at the starter. When you put the key in the run position are there any instrument lights or is the dash dark? If so you may have shorted out the ignition switch in the steering column. Check the ignition fuse and relay in the fuse panel . Just some things you can look at . Hope this helps

Just a thought to add to Jimfixer good suggestion, if auto tranny try shifting to neutral and start and slam back to park(repeat a couple times) and try, just to see if the safety neutral switch may be sticking.

Thanks for the input,I should've mentioned that I have tried all of that. I have all lights on the dashboard, however when I turn past the power to start the dash lights go out while it's turned to the start position. I get nothing when jumping the starter. But like I said, the starter was out and tested fine.

@lpfaff1 neutral safety switch is defiantly something that should be checked as well .

Steve if not getting anything when you cross the starter out, this usually signifies a bad connection or battery cable or bad battery.

tarafından

@justdone4 this is beginnig to sound more like a ground issue. your only getting a partial ground . as soon as you try to put more power through the circuit it shorts out . this could be a bad connection at the battery or the grounded end . or a short in your power cable as well or even a week cell in the battery. however that seem like a long shot if you replaced the battery. When testing the starter what are you doing ?. Try bypassing the car with the starter in the car by disconnecting the battery and connecting booster cables to the starter on the car at the starter. this will let you know if the starter is actually good or if its not . Your starter may spin free but not with a load
