I'm having issues with the jbl connect feature.

When I connect my JBL Xtreme to my Charge 3, the audio cuts in and out between either speaker. Is this a common issue or is one of the speakers possibly defective?

Having the same issue with two Charge 4 speakers. I've been talking in circles with “Harman Lifestyle Division” for OVER A YEAR and getting nowhere!

It happens when you press the Connect + (Party Mode) button and it will immediately start having some distortions and then after a little while it will start to crackle and pop. You don't even need two speakers necessarily, only to press the Connect + (Party Mode) button.

You can easily observe this when you play a single sine wave tone (from a free online tone generator.) If you play a tone below the high pass filter of the speaker (40Hz for example) and press the Connect + button you will immediately hear distortion. If you press it again 99% of the distortion will be gone but of course - now you can't use “party mode” since it's off.

I believe the only way to address this is through a firmware update.. or it might be impossible and Party Mode might just be a very poor quality feature.

Either way, WE DESERVE TO KNOW! Please send Harman Support e-mails if you purchased two speakers and tell them you have a problem. Please be polite but persistent. Maybe if enough people do it they will finally address this and if not, maybe a class action lawsuit might be the solution.

I have the same issue, when I use connect +, it crackles and cuts out. Even when they are 1 foot apart. I reset both speakers.

Reset JBL Charge 3 by holding Play/Pause button & Volume Up (+). Once switched on, no more issues.

1st: Remove all stuffs from bluetooth devices.

2nd: add only one speaker. (Do not add others speakers)

3rd: Connect the device previous added, and play music… after that, click on de speaker button (connect +) and repeat this (click to Connect + button - top of speaker) on others speakers.

So I finally found the reason for the crackling and cutting out in my situation. It was disturbances from other devices near by that are paired with (and trying to connect to) my phone that I was playing music from. Solution:

  1. Identify bluetooth devices (other speakers, headphones etc) in your home that are paired with the device you are playing music from and turn them off.
  2. Hard reset the jbl speakers your are trying to connect together.
  3. Connect one of the jbl speakers to your music source (phone, etc).
  4. Start playing music.
  5. Connect the jbl speakers using the connect feature.
