mba a1466 - liquid damage

Hello,

I have a MBA A1466 2013

I spilled TEA on it a year ago and last week it stopped working.

TODAY

I just opened it and found some liquid damage on the trackpad, then I installed a brand new one.

Removed the battery and plug the cord, it booted and work 100% ok. However when I press power it shut down immediately.

Put the battery again plug the cord and it booted. However when I press power it shut downs incorrectly.

WITH the battery and without the cord it doesn't boot.

However if I plug the cord it don't boot (ONLY IF I REMOVE THE BATTERY and put back again)

BUT

I found that ALWAYS when I pressed power with the CORD plugged the LIGHT on the cord TURN green and then go to amber.

Its like a problem with the power button. If it is with the CORD and AMBER LIGHT on it and I press power it turns GREEN and then amber again.

LIKE a CRAZY discharge when I press the power button on the logic board.

It's doing an SMC reset every time you press the power button. That means the keyboard has been liquid damaged and would need to be replaced. Though I would advise to check the logic board for any more liquid damage (corrosion, burn marks and etc).

Edit: Forgot to point this off but if you can turn on the MacBook with the keyboard cable unplugged then charger plugged in probably only need to just get the keyboard replaced.

Sometimes corrosion on trackpad board as well as that connects the keyboard on these airs if I remember as well.

Do you think the logic board is 100% ok? Only needs to replace the keyboard? Seriously?

No, you will have to check it yourself. I can't tell unless I have the board in front of me and visually inspect it with a microscope. Liquid damage sets in over time from corrosion on board so it might not show problems now but might in the long run.

@benjamin50

You´re the best man.

Just tried everything with a brand new KEYBOARD and it is PERFECT.

However. Do you think the OLD keyboard have any kind of fix? cleaning the flex would make it work again? Or do you think it is damaged inside the keys?

tarafından

It's damaged inside the keyboard layer as it's comprised of a grid of circuits which some parts gets corroded and burnt.

If you inspect it you may see brown marks on the white circuit lines that goes to every key which means it got damaged by liquid.

If it looks fine (The white circuit traces for the keyboard), I guess you could try cleaning the flex but if the flex ribbon connector for keyboard visually looks fine then no fix for it.

I have to concur with Angelo Recaman, You are the best Ben.
