My machine boots successfully but it makes a strange noise near the power button. After a few minutes and screen goes black, as if asleep, but will not restore - no matter what buttons or strokes are done. If restarted the screen returns/restarts as normal, until the few minutes pass. Any help troubleshooting will be wonderful.

Startup from your system installation disk, "C" key and go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities, Disk Utility and repair your hard drive.
