Disconnected by mistake display data connector on the board

Was trying to discover why just purchased working power supply for A1278 doesn't charge the battery, following the hints here disconnected the battery, Macbook still dark no sound, no display. Tried all recommended here combinations, decided to check power board (was advised), but by mistake polled out Display data connector and for two days cannot figure out how to put it back. Looked at several pictures displaying how to pull it out, but I cannot figure out how to put it back.

Any help greatly appreciated. Trying to do it myself, had quite a lot of experience with replacing drives, memory, other stuff, but got stuck here.

No money to spend on repair shop, the cost of repair would damage my budget considerably, hope to overcome the problem. with your help. Don't understand where the pins on the cable connector go into the on- board connector!

Update (08/03/2017)

It says "Post my answer", but it's still my question

I've made some pictures from different angles an still don't understand (probably getting old) how this strange (for me) plug on the end of the cable fits into the connector on the board. All the answers say "straight - not up" when unplugging, so what is the direction to move the upper part - from right to left toward the connector - and then what? Sorry for being so dumb, I'm upset with myself, I'm a Mac man since Mac Plus and have done a lot of small work myself, never before I got stuck like that! Please help, I'm on small Social Security and they will rob me at the repair shop.

Adding another image showing the pins on the cable connector. Where do they go? Dan, you are correct, I just can't figure out how the two parts mate

I've already sent my reply, don't know where it went, so here I am again.

I still don't understand how the plug on the cable fits into the connector on the board. Do I move it by the flap from right to left - and then what? Push it down when I get over the connector? Sorry to be so dumb, I've used to do some work on my Macs pretty easily (starting with Mac Plus). Probably just getting old :) But, if i fail with that, I'm hopelessly screwed up. Please help!

Great, the pictures were posted and displayed, two hours later - no pictures! What should I do???

Update (08/03/2017)

Thanks, Dan! You cannot imagine how I'm upset with my own inability to figure it all out. That's just not me.

Here are the images I've sent before the last:

- including the last one that shows the pins on the cable. Does this pin connector go into the gap under the little brass bridge on the board connector?

OK the connector looks good (both sides).

So I want you to think how you slide a letter into an envelope sitting at your desk... The envelope is flat on the desk, you folded the letter you pick up the lip of the envelope (leaving the envelope on the desk) and then slide the letter in!

Surprisingly, this is the same action here! Place the flat side of the cable connector just in front of the mouth of the connector on the logic board (envelope). The tape end (bale clasp) stays on top (90 degrees from the logic boards surface). Do make sure you have the cable connector the right side up. Take a look at the image I posted note the gold pins are up

Slowly... squarely... slide the two surfaces together across the logic board. The insertion is soft and not deep.

Now fold the wire bale clasp (the tape is the handle) to the other side. it will clip over the small tabs on the logic board connector side. This will hold the two surfaces together.

Remember! This is a delicate part it does not need any force! No more than what it would take to peel a postage stamp from its backer to stick on the envelope.

Hopefully you get the action needed here. Good Luck!

Can you post a picture of what you are working with here, not sure I follow you. Did you damage the logic board connector by pulling the cable straight up? Or just can't figure out how the two parts mate?

Here's an image of the connectors interface (click on it to get the full size):

The board connector has a slot parallel with the logic board you need to rest the cable end as shown here on the logic board and then squarely insert it (like it is shown in the image) into the slot (the image shows it at an angle for clarity). The wire bale which has the tape pull on it, is then folded over counter-clockwise from this perspective so it's resting on the far left side of the connector. Very little pressure or pulling is required here. If you over do it you can damage the connector.

You need to create a fresh answer and then click on the clipboard so the ID string is shown in the text window. Once done when you save it will ask if you want to update say yes and thats it!

I'm so grateful to you! I've finally got the plug into the connector, hope it will work as before. Your help deserves the highest praise possible, I' just not sure how to mark your answers as the best of the best!

Go into any repair shop and say "yo, can you help me plug this in?" No one would say "no" or charge you for a little bit of help on a DIY repair.

Thank you, but not all shops are like that - I was using Macs since Mac Plus and have a lot of experience.

@Dan - Thanks for your great help.

By the way, my MacBook without battery worked for about an hour, then, after I powered it down and tried to start it again - it turned dead. Even no green light on charger or on the side of the body. I've posted a new question and back in despair.

@jessabethany - I'm in Beverly Hills, California (not because I'm rich, quite the opposite, I'm in the Senior Housing facility)
