Why will my MacBook Pro not power up even after replacing the battery?

I am having problems with my MacBook Pro powering up.

After getting it to power up long enough to see the battery indicator show "replace battery" I ordered a new battery from IFIXIT and replaced the battery along with upgrading the RAM from 4gb to 8gb.

I then attempted to power the computer and it would come on and then within seconds go back off. I contacted Apple and they recommended resetting the SMC which I do with no luck. The charger also showed a constant green light which indicated a full charge and shouldn't have.

I contacted iFixit and they sent out a new battery. The replacement battery didn't work either. The charger would also not show any light indicator.

I took out the battery and reseated it then held down the power button for 5 seconds and then hit power again, which are the steps to resetting the SMC once again. No luck.

The charger does however now show a very faint green light but the computer will still not power up. One thing to know is that if I take the battery out and hook the charger up to the computer the computer will start up and run as normal.

I'm out of ideas on what the problem may be. Could anyone give me some advice in trying to get this computer going again?

Thanks in advance.

From the sounds of it your SMC comparator logic is damaged. This is what controls the MagSafe LED. Your logic board will need repairs.

Todd, that is not actually how to reset the SMC on your model laptop. That method only works for early 2009 and older, whereas you have a 2010. This is how it's done (from the Apple website):

"1. Shut down your Mac.

2. Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the

power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.

3. Press the power button again to turn on your Mac."

Thank you for the reply and your help. I'm assuming since I can't power down the MacBook because it never powers up I skip step 1 and go to step 2? Or do I need to take the battery out so that it will start up and then proceed with shutting down and then on to step 2?

Correct -- step 1 simply means that you need to start out with a machine that is not powered on.

Okay. Thanks, I try that.
