PS4 stuck in safe mode

PS4 stuck in safe mode

Everytime i turn ps4 on it checks system storage status then goes to menu tells me cannot start ps4 connect controller and press ps button then it tells me i need update file version 5 and i put i USB with update file it tells me update file cannot be used error code CE-34788-0 but when i start PS4 in safe mode (7 seconds on power button) it installs the update but after restart safe mode again please help

Cuento con el mismo problema, sin embargo realizo todo el proceso de colocarle el USB reconoce la actualizacion pero me queda la pantalla en negra despues de realizar todo el proceso , alguien con alguna informacion?

I have a fix for you, mine did the same thing. No need to buy new hard drive.

Before doing anything go to safe mode and do the ps4 initialization, if you want to safe your games and stuff plug in your usb to transfer it all on there. Once PS4 is now cleaned and as no games or anything on there turn PS4 off and unplug it, then turn it upside down and on the back left there’s a clip bit you can take off, take that off and then you can see your hard drive, blow on it and push it in further then blow onit again and it should be okay

How can I transfer my data while in safe mode? I don’t see an option to do so, but Kyle stokes makes it sound like you can plug in a usb storage device and transfer the data during the initialization process? Does an option come up after starting the initialization?

So I couldnt do anything but reinitialize my PS4 and lose all my data.

It’s a corrupted SSD, just replace it, order it and physically install it, it’s really easy

Just keep your PS4 on at all times, disabling auto-power-off functions. Just power your TV off when you are leaving it idle. This way, you never have this happen. My PS4 has the same problem, but it seems to occur less if no disc is inserted, though I could be wrong.

I can’t even get an option, it checks storage on turning it on gets to 100% restarts then goes to a blank screen

No if it gets stuck on any percentage in the storage check in safe mode. You will have to buy a new HDD. You have a corrupt HDD. It doesnt matter if reinstall the software, if you don’t have money for a hard drive or you don’t wanna wait. Just have any High USB storage device. Download the PS4 reinstalling software from their website. and take the hard drive out when you connect the usb storage device, that way you won’t have any interference. If you have any other question ask me in here, I’ll help you out

So I get the system software check when I turn on PS4. It always starts at 24%, loads all the way through and stay in hibernation mode once it finishes until it $@$** down, you’re saying get a new hardrive?

So if I buy a new hardware device it should quit cuz this like it’s 3rd time it works for a week or so then when I turn it off or leave it on it goes into safe mode

Other way of running a firmware update if the USB is giving you the error, is using a disc. Some game disc comes with latest updates you can use them also.

I thought you were just trolling then i popped BO4 in and walla it restarts with the updating system software thing wit a blue flowmark in the back signify that it has indeed left safe mode. you are amazing

My PS4 won’t let me do anything it checks the storage slows right down on 24% then finally goes to 100% then restarts,a PS logo comes up and then it just goes black and switches itself off any help please dutton79@gmail.co.uk

Has anyone found an actual solution? Spent hours looking everywhere on the internet no one seems to have any luck how can a problem like this go un detected? Mine wont update from a usb or the internet cant rebuild database and from what I've heard of you try and reset you lose all the data and nothing happens. Gonna find a disc with an update and go from there.

just put a recent game from the year you are having that problem in your ps4 and update it via wifi or lan cable. it will turn on after it says for you to restart

Put a game that came out or had an update recently and update it via lan cable or wifi. then when it restarts if it comes up with a blue flow mark you are good.

I managed to break the “Cannot Start the PS4“ loop on my PS4 by performing an initialization from Safe Mode. Nothing else seems to work. Do this as a last resort, but if it does not work and break the loop, I do not know what else to do.

This is hard to explain but I have a ps4 slim. My ps4 controller works just fine but only thing wrong is I am stuck on not enough USB storage so I bought a new hdd exactly like my old one and I finally got on safe mode but I can't select anything else but #7 which is the only thing is it letting me choose but when I choose it. It takes me back to safe mode. Help me out I don't know if any of that made any sense

Corrupt hard drive maybe? Have you tried reseting the databases or anything while inside safe mode?

Pop your top cover off and see i your power button is somehow stuck??

The other thing I would try is if you have a spare 2.5" drive kicking around swap it out for yours and see if that makes a difference

Sometimes it's a bad hard drive as well that causes this.

Mine doesn't have the menu option and it wont take the update plus my power button doesnt work any suggestions

It’s a corrupted SSD, replace it, PlayStation is ass, I think they do it, just so you buy a new one, buy the new PS5

No idea if this will get an answer but I did everything i have read… all the way up to completly resetting the system and it still went bck to that loop. It loaded to 100% but still loaded back to the save mode. Has anyone figured this out?

Alright so. I might have a fix. If you have play station plus your save data should automatically save ti the could. Dont worry about save data. I chose option 6 and it does sadly reset the playstation but after chosing that i let the system do its thing until it cam onto the brand new system set up screen for the time and date. Once it gets the tht point hokd the power button for about 8secinds so the system comepletly shuts off there will be a second click. After the second click and the light is completly off unplug all cords. Leave it completly unplugged for about 1 to 2 hours. Once you plug it back it start it up and set it up and log into your PSN and make sure the system is running smooth and turn it on and off a few times to make sire it doesnt go into the safe mode. Once thats good download a small game or app to make sure it downloads. DONT download more than 2 games at once or it may go back into the safe mode

I tried to rebuild my database but it takes me to a screen that asks me to install an update file from a usb for reinstallation- i didn’t select this option so I try to start my ps4 normally so i can back up all my game save data to the cloud and it takes me right back to this screen saying cannot start ps4, insert usb with update file for reinstallation. I don’t even know where to get the proper update file let alone install the &&^&^$^ thing and have it exit this safe mode loop. Any suggestions anyone??

If you put in a new game or one with a new update it will ask you to uptake say yes then just wait and it has like a75% chance of working sadly not for me;(

Its a hard drive failure. If the prosess repeats over 3 times within 30 days of use then its a no doubt hard drive issue. Hard drive replacements range from 40-90 $ and cost of installation will run you another 40 on top of that… check your local laptop repair places to see how much they will charge you to fix it.

I had the same problem what i did was unplug then plugged it back in put a game in i never downloaded in it went through the memory check with ease it skipped the needing a usb drive and rebuilt database

From my experience with other pc drives and storage devices you should be able to remove the hard drive and connect it to a Windows unit. I don't have any Mac experience so I'll speak of Windows.

  1. Remove the PS4 hdd with the unit completely off.
  2. Connect to your pc using usb to SATA adaptor.
  3. Go to disk drive map to see drive. Computer drive should be C: external drives are usually a different letter.
  4. Open the CMD: prompt type chkdsk then letter designation of the disk. So your line of text will be
  5. CHKDSK G: /f
  6. Also you can simply right click the drive in file explorer, click properties, click tools and then check. This may be a more direct route.
  7. If your drive is not recognized it may be failing and need replaced.
  8. I would try this before going through the more permanent “initialize system" option. It may take a little time but should be less of a pain in the ass than recovering all your games and save data from th PS Plus cloud and PS Store.

And after many attempts to do it this way and failing I opened the hard drive (not advised if you want to continue using this hard drive) it turns out that the head inside of the hard drive was stuck. After correcting the issue the drive still wouldn't work. We installed a 1TB Barracuda drive and reinstalled the PS4 O.S. file and the data was restored from the cloud.

If you had plugged a PS4 drive into a PC (and I know because I did this) Windows would not have assigned a drive letter to the PS4 drive because PS4 uses a non-Windows compatible format for its internal drives. Disk Manager will show the condition of the drive (mine showed as operational) from it's SMART data. CHKDSK cannot work because no letter is assigned.

Your method may work for drives that are external to the PS4 and attached by USB, but I haven't tried it.

Have a question. PS4 keeps saying cannons start the ps4. Connect DualShock using usb then press ps button. Then just directs me to install software. Also from the menu I can’t select anything other than option 7, to reinstall the software. How can I fix this. I am in safe mode also.

Yea... you are going through the same thing that I am going through. You need to purchase a new hard drive and then reinstall the system software from the PlayStation website. Then your ps4 will work like it was brand new!!!!

That definitely sounds like your HDD bricked on you. My son's PS4 did the same thing. The reader arm in the hard drive was stuck. There are several youtube videos that give advice on how to try and save the hard drive if it is just a stuck arm. Good luck!!

I am too stuck on the infinite safe boot loop on my 5yo ps4pro. My power button too isn't responding. The only way I can get the console to boot is by feeding it with a disk..
