Can you replace components of an external drive enclosure?

I can no longer get this Lacie 2tb Dual drive to mount. I've suffered through many failed hard drives, and it appears that the actual SATA drives inside are working properly.

I think that there is a problem with the power supply (or something related). The fan no longer works.

The trouble is that this 2tb drive is made up of two separate internal drives. Ordinarily I would just put them in another enclosure. But these drives are formatted to be perceived as one by the computer. When I try to mount one on its own, the computer doesn't recognize the format and asks for it to be initialized or ejected.

My understanding is that when the two drives work together in this manner, it doesn't work to simply put them in a new dual drive enclosure by a random manufacturer. I do have one on order, but I don't know if it will work.

So the question is: is it possible to repair my existing enclosure?

Any ideas as to which part would need to be replaced and where to get one?

Thanks

I'm using this drive with ProTools to record audio. Presumably you're not allowed to record audio in ProTools to a RAID drive. So I don't know if it's a proper RAID configuration.

All I know is that it's sold as a 2TB hard drive, and when you open it there are 2 1tb drives inside.

Email to: kcummings@lacie.com and cryan@lacie.com Karen is your best bet.

Tell them your problem and see if they might be able to assist you. Include exactly which drive you have

I am assuming you had them in a RAID 0 configuration. Now therein lies the problem. Assuming the LaCie uses a standard RAID 0 config and no customizations that would make it proprietary, you can buy any one of these and pop the HDDs back in to access the data.

PS: Back up your data on a RAID 1 or a single drive next time

PSS: RAID 0, in case you don't know what it is, means that you would need both drives in order to access data. The loss of one of these drives causes you to lose all data.

PSSS: A more secure method of backup (more than RAID 1) is RAID 5 and RAID 6

So I bought an external enclosure, and my mac is saying, when I plug it in, that it's an unrecognizable format and requires initialization.

this would lead me to believe that there is a proprietary LaCie RAID configuration.
