black screen with continual tone sound

Upon start up the macair gives a tone sound continually - it is not the usual chime - never heard it before. It was brought to a mac store(not Apple store) and I hear they mentioned something about ram, nothing they could do but buy a new machine. I tried zapping PRAM. Does anyone know what this may be? Could it be the ram gone bad, and so a new logic board is required? If so, if I buy a used logic board is it as simple as swapping one out, and the machine is good to go, or will there be additional steps to get the logic board to sync with whatever else(SSD).

Thanks

It might help if you uploading an audio file of the tone it is making.

You can easily change the RAM modules yourself. If you unscrew the back you can see it's right on top. You can remove it by pressing the sides next to it black plastic) outwards, which will cause the RAM to pop up, after that you can just gently pull them out.

Problems with the RAM usually give intermittent beeps, instead of a continuous tone tho.

most times a Macbook makes a continual sound, it is an error message for missing hardware. if you have access to old drives, or RAM sticks, i would try replacing those. if you dont, then you would need a store to diagnose it for you. (Do not take it to manufacturer specialists, as they will likely try to sell you something)

RAM is a replacable hardware, Where P.RAM is essentially a macs version of CMOS.

A new logic board will require a fresh install of the OS on the Solid State.

Thanks for this. While I've replaced lots of ram through the years, I do not see a walkthrough on iFixit, and on youtube I found one which shows heating, and replacing using a heat gun - seems incredibly complex - and more for a manufacturer.

there is a possibility your specific model is integrated, in which case, yes, i would suggest taking it to a repair shop to look into the replacement. or check to see if the Logic board comes with it pre-installed.

Yup - ram is soldered to logic board. Found a used replacement part on Ebay is anywhere from $125 - $165, and then swap out the logic.

@robdonovan There is no RAM soldered to the logic board on this machine nor is there an SSD blade in this model. This machine uses a standard hard drive and a system reinstall is not needed.
