Will not charge or turn on.

Went to bed and power was at 7%. Did not plug in charger. When I got up the next morning, phone would not turn on. Plugged in the charger, still did not turn on. Left it on the charger for one day, still did not turn on. Changed chargers and cords three times and tried wireless charging, you got it, still did not turn on.

In all situations the charging light never turned on, the charger never got warm, and the phone never got warm. However, when the phone is plugged into the charger and I do a soft boot, barely visible bars flash intermittently on the bottom half the phone screen.

An online search indicates this is not an uncommon problem and frequency is increasing. Verizon will honor the warranty because there is a small crack on the left side of the screen. This is been there for five months without causing any problems.

My thinking on possible problems:

Battery needs to be replaced;

Charging hardware Is defective.

Charging firmware or software is crap.

I am wide open to suggestions and troubleshooting. If nothing brings my phone back to life, is it possible to recover the data?

I had two Samsung Galaxy S4 that went dead.

One thing I observed, prior to their demise, was that the phones were warmer than usual when charging

My theory is that repeated overheating would cause some chips or circuits to fail.

I have bought an external charger for the batteries and bought also spare batteries, so that I will never have to recharge them with the cell phone again.

Just install a fully charge battery everyday.

Try holding volume down + power for about 10-20 seconds and try turning the phone on again. Hopefully that helps.
