The keyboard top will not come off the body

I had a disc stuck in my superdrive so i followed the steps to take it out.. When it came to Step 12 where I had to take the keyboard top off of the body, the bottom left hand corner would not come out. In the end I had to bend it to access the inside of the laptop. I have a black macbook and wondering if this makes any difference (doubt it though)... Anyone know why this has happened?

Inside the battery compartment, on the front edge, there are 4 screws to remove (2nd from left, 4th, 7th and 9th). I also needed to do a little coaxing in that area but if eventually lifted out. Hope this helps.

It can be tricky to get a MacBook topcase off once all the proper screws have been removed. There are vertical strips of metal on the left and right undersides of the topcase, toward the front, which must rest inside slots on the computer itself. When removing the topcase, these can be difficult to get loose. My best suggestion, once the topcase is basically loose but still stuck in these positions, is to grab it firmly on the left and right sides, and shake the topcase lightly back and forth, without using too much force, and while keeping the topcase horizontal at all times. If you lift the topcase upward from the left or right in an effort to pry it off the base of the computer, you will only lock the metal strips in place, and they will become more resistant to release. I've found that after 5-10 seconds you can generally get one side to let loose, and then the other, by using this simple side-to-side shimmying method.

Since it sounds like you lifted one side of the topcase to the point where metal was bent, you will want to take a look underneath and bend the metal back in place so that you can re-position the topcase on the computer again, and so the metal strips will go back into the slots. You can look at the slots on the edges of the base of the computer and use them as a guide as to how much you need to bend the metal on the underside of the topcase.
