Upgrade logic board - Different logic board

Hi there,

I am wondering if it's possible (like feasible) to upgrade the logic board from my MBP retina 13" mid 2014.

I have a intel core i5 with 8GB of RAM. Would it be possible to have an intel core i7 with 'customisable' slots for RAM (I believe the RAM on my model is soldered on the logic board, which makes it very hard to upgrade..)

I know the RAM upgrade is an issue that already has been raised, but the question is: can I have a different logic board on this mac?

Cheers

Sorry guy ;-{ You would need to go back the one of the older Unibody systems (2012 or older) to regain serviceable RAM. All of the Retina series have soldered RAM. The very newest models now have the SSD storage soldered in as well!

When Apple intro'ed the new MacBook Pro 2016 models dropping what most working Pro's need for ports and performance, a backlash ensued! And today many Pro's are either jumping ship or hanging tight hoping Apple finally see's the light as they messed up big time again! For now I would wait till WWDC and then see what Apple tells us, maybe they will surprise us!!

  • Rumor has it Apple is working on a new MacBook Pro. But, we don't know what they are going to do.

Apple realized they messed up in the desktop space the new iMac Pro is really the stop gap and a newer Mac Pro which is modular will be coming. Apple even had a pow-wow with a bunch tech writers and told them it will come out at the end of 2018 as the working Pro's where either hanging onto the older cheese grater Mac Pro's or fleeing to Hackintosh systems in droves as the 2013 model did not offer what they needed. This was the first time Apple shivered to the point they needed to address their failing.

Real working high end Pro's need laptops with upgradability! RAM, Storage and they need onboard ports (not dongles) and MagSafe as a starting point. I would even say a good number of advanced users also want the same thing.

Like many, I'm holding tight for now, but I need to do something soon too!!
