Brightness Shutdown Problem (Even After Inverter Replacement)
hello guys,
i have a white Macbook Core 2 Duo, model A1181 (Santa Rosa i think), with a brightness problem. it all started when it would shutdown the brightness randomly when it was active or idle. after doing some tests and research, i've noticed that, after the brightness shutdown, decreasing the brightness (via keyboard) to it's minimum and then increase it (via keyboard) would turn the brightness on again. i've also noticed that if i put the brightness to it's maximum that would shutdown the brightness after a few seconds, if it stays one level before the maximum (or lower) it stays on until i do something like touch or move the screen lid (up and down). if i have the power adapter connected it's more difficult to make it shutdown the brightness...only with hard screen lid/notebook movement. connected to an external monitor , the problem only happens to notebook's screen as expected.
i've read many pages and forums and it seems the common procedure for this problem is to replace the inverter. so i've replaced it but the problem didn't go away. so i might try to switch the inverter cable now, but maybe you have a better suggestion.
thank you,
joão

hello mayer,
changed inverter cable....checked connections...both on the inverter and on the board...cable did the normal 'click' when connected on the board...and the problem remains exactly the same....don't know what i can do more...symptoms are the same...maybe i'll take it to some repair shop... :(
thank you so much,
joão

something strange is going on here.
after i replaced the cable, i noticed the symptoms were the same. then, i've restarted the macbook and reseted the PRAM and then everything was ok, even in full brightness. to test it more, i did some stress tests and after some 'wide open case to half open case' strong movements it went out again and it became extra sensitive to top case movement then i noticed if i pressed the right side of the screen case (just after the 'macbook' inscription) it would turn off the brightness...only there, not on the bottom case, not on the top of the screen case, not on the left side, only on the bottom right side and even soft touches, then i pressed hard there and increased the brightness from it's minimum and the brightness was ok again, with soft movements, full brightness ok and again, only after strong case movements it went out again...and returned to the same initial symptoms and the bottom right side of the top case doesn't trigger the problem anymore...only case movements :(
