replacing lcd with aftermarket, resulting in no auto brightness

has anyone had this issues with purchasing an aftermarket LCD, and the auto brightness no longer functions? when returning the front assembly ribbon to the OEM it works just fine, will not work in the new LCD. have tried a few different vendors to no avail. is this a common issue with the iphone 8,8plus and 10 with the newer sw? or potentially the glass?

So after extensive research and evaluations, here is your answer. When you change out the LCM on an iPhone 8, you lose both the true tone and autobrightness features on the phone. The ambient light sensor becomes disabled. The proximity sensor and cameras will work properly, but the other functions are no longer operational. Apple has done it again.

is there any documents or forums that you found other than here, that state this? something I can use in support of my evidence to provide to my supers

tarafından

can you please clarify what you mean when using the abbreviation LCM instead of LCD

tarafından

By LCM I mean the entire module to include the glass, frame etc.

Using 2 OEM phones, I have swapped out the camera flex assembly. After exchanging them I noticed the True Tone and auto-brightness features were not functioning properly.. These features use the ambient light sensor to work. The ambient light sensor is electronically tied to the original LCD. Replacement of an LCD module will cause this issue, whether or not it is an OEM part or an aftermarket part.

I used a lamp with a normal bulb, (not an led), to test this by going to the auto-brightness menu and turning on the lamp to watch the phone's reaction. If you are not in the True Tone mode, the phone's brightness will automatically lighten and darken with the turning off and on of the lamp. With the camera flex replaced, the phone will not perform this feature. With its original part, it works properly. Does that help? If not, let me know what questions you have.

ah yes, I am aware of changing the flex assembly causing an issue because it is paired with the mother board. However in testing as I stated in a previous comment, I have performed testing of an OEM LCD and an aftermarket vendor LCD. the OEM call sensor ribbon is attached separately to a glass face and attached to the mother board, eliminating the sensor ribbon as the variable. Using the OEM LCD And utilizing a light source, testing for functionality of auto brightness through device settings. Followed by testing the aftermarket LCD, showing no function of the auto brightness feature. Additionally reattaching the OEM and brightness is still functional when switching back to OEM.

The front assembly ribbon is attached to the glass the entire duration and is never disconnected or reconnected.

Brightness sensor is wired with the camera, not your LCD, however, where the sensor sit behind the LCD could be covered with a little sticker that’s preventing the sensor from seeing light, see if its transparent behind the LCD, if not, see if you popped the sensor out by accident or stripped the wires. Look online for images of what the sensor looks like, good luck.

i work for a repair center, we transfer the OEM front call sensor/mic/camera/brightness etc. ribbon over to the aftermarket LCDs for replacement. the issue we have been encountering is the brightness will no longer adjust in the after market. for example, it works in the OEM, transfer to aftermarket and wont work, i can place the ribbon right back into the OEM and it works again. which leads me to believe the issue is the after market, not the ribbon itself. transferred all the plastic grommets as well as the light filters and small stickers to no avail. as well as restore on several units. have tried 6 different vendors with no luck and since this is occurring across 3 models, was curious if anyone else was experiencing this issue. or perhaps is aware of a vendor that they have not encountered this problem

Scrape away the IR film or paint on the backside where the sensor meets the glass, then go over the spot in sharpie. Works every time.

Auto Brigness gone after screen replacement

Here’s an article about your problem with a solution.

It happens with an OEM LCM as well. The ambient light sensor will not function unless it is with its original LCM. This is going to be a huge issue for repair vendors outside of Apple.

I performed testing yesterday using a replacement piece of glass, meant for reman, and attached the front ribbon assembly to it. while that was plugged in, attached the oem lcd assembly to check function. it passed. followed by leaving the sensor attached, and attaching the after market lcd assembly. there in, what appears to be the issue is not the aftermarket glass itself, but the LCD assembly. so it appears our issue is related to not using an oem lcd, not the glass panel it sits in

If you replace iPhone 8, 8 plus or X screen you need to copy the firmware data of the original screen into the new screen. The needed tool is under development. I saw some working versions, what are tested and working with IOS 11.4 and 12.0 Beta. The screen data can be cloned only to OEM screens for now.

Afte the copy of the data, the light sensor works well again.
