I replaced battery and everything works but it now won't charge

I replaced the battery and after a soft reset it switched on. All I had to do was to reset the date and time. The problem is that it will not charge. I have tried using a mains charger and also connecting to my laptop USB connection. The battery charging screen appears with the battery showing red at the left hand end as usual. However it is not charging. I checked and it is recognised when I connect to itunes and I can read all usual basic info on my laptop. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?

George Wills, if you are absolutely sure that you have every connection right, and every cable seated properly, and that your dock connector is ok, take a look at logic board and see if you can find the charging fuses that may be shortened out. This link shows the general location on the iPhone but I would think that at least it will give you an idea of where it might be on your iPod.

Thanks for your reply. I am sure every connection is OK. Every function of the unit worked when the new battery was installed. The USB and mains connection cables work for my Iphone so that is not the problem. I will try to identify the fuse but if I do how do I check if it is shorting out or if it is no longer working ?

Did you already hard reseted it?

You can also change the computer you're using.

I came up with this symptom yesterday (on an itouch 2nd generation), but just reataching the usb cable worked for me.

You will need a multimeter to test the fuses. Most part of the models have the beep function to test continuity of a fuse or cable.
