Vertical large flickering bands on screen: what is wrong?

My iMac has two large flickering bands on the left.

Look at the the picture please

Does someone is able to understand if the problem is the screen or another part? Apple hardware test says everything is ok but as you can see that's not true.

I guess that the cause is a magnetic field exposition (the iMac has been too near to a microwave oven on the magnetron side), but If it is that, I can't figure out what part has been effected.

I'll try an external monitor as soon as I can. since then anyone can help?

Many thanks

I think you'll find the external monitor to be working fine. In my past experience it has usually been the LCD itself. On some occasions it has been the LVDS cable. This is the cable that connects the LCD to the main logic board. You can test the cable by playing around with it but you have to take apart the computer to get to it. If you aren't familiar with taking it apart, you might have someone at a repair shop try it. WHEN it was the cable, it was one of the connectors either at the display or the main board. Hope this helps.
