Logic Board damage due to forcible Rear Panel removal.
You know how your supposed to GENTLY remove the rear panel, swing it over, and THEN remove the socket connecting the headphone jack board and the logic board?
My friend didn't do that.
When he removed the rear panel, he took the socket along with the connector.
I'm looking at that socket on a good iPod. My eyes hurt because the pins are so small, but I'd like to see if I can perform some surface mount repair on it.
I haven't seen the actual damage yet. On pure speculation, I was thinking of taking a blob of silver solder to each side of the socket, and hope the solder wick works well enough to wick any bridging.
Any thoughts?
