RAM Upgrade - Slot Failure

Recently, I decided that I was going to maximize the RAM on my machine and purchased 4x4GB RAM modules. When I initially installed all four new cards, the machine did not turn on and instead there was just the slow steady tone indicating RAM failure. I did some research and tested the cards one by one, it didn't turn out to be any of the cards that was defective but one of the slots on my Mac. Is there a solution for this? Or is it best to simply leave the three functioning slots alone and suffer through only having 12GB of memory (haha).

Yes, slots can go bad. Sometimes this can be fixed by loosening or tightening the retains screws on the RAM bracket. Sometimes a slot that will not take a high end stick will accept a lessor one. But it will do fine with the 12 GB of RAM you are using now.

Thank you! Am I able to access those screws from the RAM compartment or are they only accessible if I remove the glass?

You have to tear down and remove the logic board to get to them. This works much better on a laptop, where you can just turn the screw a quarter of a turn and then test. But on the iMac you might have to tear it down several times and then just find it didn't work. To much trouble!
