Home button will not stay in new screen, even with back plate secure.

I am repairing a customer's iPad 5 (2017) A1823 and no matter what I've tried, the home button will not stay snug in the hole even after the back plate is over it. There is a gap and I transferred the original gaskets over, it literally will not stay. I ordered a new back plate and even a new home button to replace this one with, but unortunately if I have to replace the home button to get it to stay snug the customer loses Touch-ID. I've exhausted every option I can think of, does anyone have any ideas?

I get this issue all the time with the iPad 5 glass only replacements.

There will always be a small gap where the iPad home button is slightly dipped in but otherwise works fine.

With the backplate which you will have transferred from the old cracked screen there are a few things to note:

- Have you cleaned the old adhesive off of it? I use ethanol / igniter fluid carefully to remove the adhesive then isopropyl alcohol (99% preferred) to clean the adhesive residue so that the surface is clean and ready to put new adhesive on.

- What kind of tape are you using to adhere the metal bracket to the glass? Thinner strong adhesive is the key to getting it to have a better snug fit. Tesa 61395 is what I use to adhere the black home button bracket to the glass.

Another thing to note that with the replacement iPad digitizers, some suppliers have thicker glass and other suppliers have thinner glass. This in result will cause the home button to either feel more dipped in or closer to the level of the glass.

Cleaned it up, and got it to work properly, thanks Ben, I use the 3M double sides adhesive, very thin, and melts easy. The customer was happy to have it back and working with the original button.
