Trackpad cursor moving around on its own and clicking anywhere

Hello.

I own a Macbook Pro Late 2011 model and recently the trackpads cursor is behaving weirdly, like it moves around on its own, it clicks anywhere.

I am guessing I need to change my trackpad ?

Will the trackpad on above link help me ? Do I need to check model number A1278 ?

or just 'Mid-2009--Mid-2012' is good enough to assume it will work with my laptop.

Thank you

the cursor erratic behavior seems to have stopped today but the 2 finger scrolling is not smooth, sometimes I can not scroll.

and then it works smoothly.

Using the coconutbattery app I found out that MBP battery had 1643 cycle count.

Sounds like you have two problems here! A battery which also needs to be replaced. As you can see here you've exceeded its lifespan! Determine battery cycle count for Mac notebooks

Before buying a new trackpad I'd open the Mac and make sure the battery is not swollen. A defective battery might push on trackpad and cause the symptoms you're experiencing.

I checked with a vendor. The battery does not seem to be swollen.

Can't we figure out if the battery is swollen without opening the mac ?

No, not possible, it needs visual inspection. You just need a small philips screwdriver to open the bottom, your fingers to unplug the battery connector, and a tri-winged screwdriver to remove the two battery screws. It just takes 10mins to do all.
