My golf cart won’t stay running even with a full charge

I have a 2004 EZGO TXT electric golf cart. I recently replaced the cables on my batteries as they were not connecting properly, the batteries were not holding a charge and the cables were getting very hot. Replaced the cables and everything seemed fine for about a week. Driving it today, it started to die. Got it to the charger and it showed full power but cart wouldn’t go. Felt the one new cable and it was hot. Any clues as to what the issue could be? Is it the batteries or something else?

The batteries may well be running out of “juice”! Lead/Acid batteries do die after a certain length of usage. The fact that you cables are getting hot may mean too thin cables for the intended use or an (almost) short somewhere, or that the power provided by the batteries cannot turn the motor and an idle motor draws excessive current. Try measuring the current by a clamp-on DC ammeter and compare with rated such. Also have an auto electrician measure your batteries status (voltage, current drawn, density of electrolyte, etc.). Unless you have a problem with the motor, most probable cause is battery(-ies) .
