Power Supply Connector is Not Connecting to Power Supply

Hi all, I was replacing my WiFi and Bluetooth antenna inside my PS4 and I was able to do that just fine. HOWEVER, during the part where you need to disconnect the power supply connector from the power supply (and I was told to be careful with it as to not rip it off the motherboard) it was kind of stuck. I wiggled it back and forth for quite some time before finally pulling it out. When I try to insert it back in, it’s SUPER lose. Like it seems to fit in just fine but it can be pulled out very easily (especially compared to how tight it was before). When I plug the console in, it no longer powers up. Any ideas on what I should do? New power supply?

Tl;dr My power supply connector loosely connected to the power supply and easily falls out.

There is a possibility it could be the cable, as well as the PSU itself. the cheapest way to fix it, would be to take your soldering iron, and jump it, but this would also make future repairs more difficult.

Try a second Multi-Wire branch, and if that doesnt work, solder a new connector to the board of your PSU.

then try a new PSU. if all of these are not fixing your issues, then you have bigger fish to fry

I currently do not have a soldering iron. If I wanted to try a second Multi-Wire branch, how would I do that?

it is simply the 4 or 5 lead (depending on your revision) that connects the 5V connector to the board, which is what im assuming is the connector you are talking about. when you post this question.

Based upon hte pictures provided, you did not remove the connector from its mate, you removed both at the same time from the board. It also appears that one of the leads has also been broken. The connector on the power supply itself must be replaced. If you do not have the capability to do this, replace the entire power supply which will have the connector in place. Note: the end of the cable being held in the last photo needs too have the housing removed. If you look carefully, you will see that you have both the male and female connectors at the end. These must be separated.

Thank you very much for the reply Dan. There's a lot to unpack there as I'm an amateur with this. A few questions:

-What do you mean I did not remove it from it's mate? (Also if the board you're referring to is the mother board, I did not remove the connector from the motherboard)

-How would one remove the housing of the cable?

-How do you think the connector had both connector types at the end? Did I pull them off the PSU?

To summarize, if I buy a new PSU and insert that, what else would I have to do, step by step?

Thank you very much for your help by the way, it's sincerely appreciated.

If you look closely at the end in your hand in the picture, you should see that the wires from the cable go into a connector. The exposed wires at the other end of that connector are actually in the "mate" of the connector itself. Take a look at the end that is in the motherboard which is the same type of connector set. If you can remove that side, you should have white plastic pieces both on the cable and on the motherboard. Similarly, the power supply side should look the same. You have removed both the part on the cable AND the part that should be attached to the power supply PC board at the same time. This happens when the two plastic pieces stick to each other. If you can't solder, then replacing the power supply is the only option. You must separate the two white plastic pieces however.

Sorry this took so long to respond to, I was out of the country. So you're saying I need to remove the opposite gender connectors that I guess I ripped off when I removed it from the PSU? You are NOT referring to the beige housing thing right?

If you look carefully at the third picture down form the top,, the connector shown in your fingers is actually both parts ( the plug and receptacle). Remove the "receptacle" from the cable connector. You should be able to find the broken "receptacle" part at Digikey or Mouser. It looks like the pins from the connector broke rather than the pads on the board. This means that you should be able to replace the connector onto the power supply board.

An alternative is to contact me privately with your mailing address and I can remove one of these from a "parts" supply I have and send it to you.
