MacBook Pro early 2008 (4,1) display illimination problem

My old MacBook Pro (not unibody) works, but the internal display has an illumination problem. Sometimes the display is completely black right from boot, in other times when I start it up it works. Sometimes it becomes black while using it.

Anyway the display is never totally black, if I put a flash light direct on the display I can see the desktop and its icons.

I tried resetting PRAM and VRAM with no results.

It's not the VGA because if I use an external monitor I see with no problems. Which part should I replace to fix it? Inverter board? Inverter cable?

  • Replaced the LED board - problem persists

check the filter caps and resistors etc. on your left IO board. What you have here seems to originate on that board by not providing the power to all backlight LED’s. this is not an inverter/driver issue. The "stage lighting" effect is most commonly caused by issues with the LED returns. Check the resistors around your LVDS connector. Also check the LED driver. For that you will of course need the logic board schematic, the boardview files and a good multimeter. So you will have to identify your logic board by its 820-XXXX number and possibly post some good images of your logicboard with your question. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that

I've also replaced the left I/O board because of the MagSafe contact while replacing the inverter, but didn't solve the display issue.

I will look further in the resistors and logic board and come back with more infos.

I've added pictures of the logic board code and contacts, how can I find the schematic? I haven't found anything online...

Stage lighting happens when only one set of the backlight LED’s are lit. Your LED Driver board needs replacing MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 LED Driver Board Replacement and here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 15" (Models A1226/A1260) LED Driver Board

Ok I replaced the LED board but the problem persists... what else could it be?

Check the display connector side. Do you see any corrosion or cut in the cable?

@danj I keep on looking but I cannot find any corrosion or scorch...
