have removed battery and also restored factory settings, with no result.

If your phone runs 2g, it must be on a t-mobile network, they are the only carriers that use 2g. Other carriers do not support 2g.

I am in USA.
Whether it is on 1G or 2G is irrelevant. It worked fine one day and then all of a sudden, it stopped working. Nothing changed. It was originally set-up (started) by Sprint, but my carrier is Credo.
