Can I use PC3L 12800S RAM in place of PC3 10600S RAM

I want to upgrade my RAM in my MacBook.

I already have 2x4 GB of RAM but they are PC3L 12800S and the previous RAM is 2x2 PC3 10600S.

Can I use my PC3L 12800S RAM?

I also want to upgrade my laptop with an extra 4 GB RAM. I have ACER-V3-574G model laptop with 4GB DDR3L 8400 RAM with clock speed 1600 MHz (part number: ACR16D3LS1KNG/4G). If I add DDR3L 12800 with clock speed 1600 MHz, will it be compatible with the previous existed RAM? Please help.

If my DDR3 RAM is DDR3 1xr8 pc3 10600s I upgrade to 4gb 2xr8 pc3 12800s, there's having a problem?

Can you give us a bit more here. Who's RAM and what is your exact system.

Lets breakdown the different elements in the modules description:

PC3L Vs PC3

PC3 is standard voltage (1.50V) where PC3L is low voltage (1.35V) - A system which requires PC3L cannot support PC3 RAM. PC3L RAM will work in a PC3 based system as it will run at the standard voltage and will inter-operate with PC3 RAM within the system.

12800 MB/s (DDR3-1600) Vs 10600 MB/s (DDR3-1333)

This is the speed of the RAM Clearly DDR3-1600 is able to run faster than DDR-1333. But thats only the modules ability not what the system is running its memory bus speed at. Your MacBook was designed for PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM, its best to stick with what Apple expects. You can use the faster RAM, but, you really won’t see a sizable difference. So don’t spend extra for the few nano seconds of improvement.

Consider going with more than 8 GB of RAM I would go with 16 GB if you want better performance working on large items or running multiple apps concurrently.

Instead focus on your drive If you haven’t already done it going to a SSHD hybrid drive or better yet a good high speed SSD. Both of these will offer more improvement.

I plan on buying a 1tb ssd in the future. I already own the 12800S RAM so I'll just stick with that. Thank you very much!

@imjimjim21 - I added a bit more on your RAM question please re-read

@danj The PC3L ram is 4x2 gb I'll just use it for now, because I don't have the money to buy 16gb right now. It would be 2x2gb for 4x2gb so ill go with. The 12800S RAM

The answer, unfortunately is not definitive.  Usually, yes. But, because of no strict standardization enforcement it may not work. I’d say better to order DDR3 if that is what originally came with your motherboard. I bought 3 PC3L RAM different brands all did not work on my PC3 system.

I'm surprised! I haven't seen any issues using or mixing low voltage SO-DIMM's in standard SO-DIMM's. Cheap or too fast SO-DIMM's can react badly! This gets into the RAS & CAS of the memory chips used. As the slower rate of strobe will dictate and that can cause the higher strobed chips to get impatient so they lose the value before the RAM is read. Cheaper RAM will also affect this as the slowness will cause the rest of the good RAM to fail.

I still recommend "it's best to stick with what Apple expects."

We faced the same problem with PC3 and PC3L memory but we plan to use both of them on a dual motherboard (with 2 processors) where are 2 separate areas with 6 banks of DIMM for each processor. So our idea is to use PC3 sticks on one area which suppose to deliver 1.5 V for them, and PC3L sticks on the other area which suppose that electronically will deliver only 1.35 V !!! Is that a good idea, will work as I described ?! I have to mention that the memories has different frequencies, 1066 and 1333 MHz, but this is an software issue and we accept to work at 1066 Mhz if will work together from hardware point of view !

@liviu1 - Ah! Mixing speed is never good! This is the root issue not the voltage the SO-DIMM is running at. You might be able get away with it populating different channels with different speed modules. I've not don't any deep testing mixing speeds (I like sticking to the rules) given how cheap RAM is these days.

tarafından

Most of the time mixing frequencies of the RAM will work. The system will use the lowest frequencies of the mixed RAM. Of course this is not recommended, but if you can not find the RAM that you are looking for, might as well to give it a try.

From the point of the voltage it should work. From the point of frequency there might be a problem. You have to check your CPU. If your computer uses 1'st generation of intel processors, which means it is using HM55 chipset, you computer might not work with PC3L-12800 memory.

I have changed the RAM of my Toshiba device (Satelite C850-A669)

Processor Intel Core i5 - 2450M @2.5GHZ

Old Ram was

(4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600S-09-11-F3)DDR3

And the new ram was

First (8GB-PC3L/12800S)DDR3

And the second (8GB-PC3/12800S)DDR3

The problem is that I do not find the same type or frequency

In the market now

The problem occurs in chanting or commenting during videos on YouTube or working on the device for five seconds, and this problem is repeated a lot

Try to remove the PC3L/12800S, then you will find out if it is the one causing the issue.

Based on the specifications of Lenovo, it only accepts the regular RAM not the low voltage. You may try it but no guarantee that it will work. My suggestion is, use the recommended RAM by lenovo. Most of the time as long as it is a regular RAM not the low voltage, even if the frequency of the RAM not the one recommended by Lenovo, it will work. It even works most of the time if you mixed 2 different frequencies as long as it is not the low voltage RAM.
