Upgrade Safari Install Probelm

After getting a new drive and reinstalling all the software I wantede to surf the net with the original Safari that came with the computer. When I get to Yahoo or hotmail or facebook it prompts me to upgrade the safari browser.

After the download the system can NOT install the upgrade and it gives me a fault message " have an error: "Missing bill of materials".

I'm relatively new to Macs so I may not be providing all the relevant information here. What do Ihave to do to download that upgrade

What system are you running? What was the original system? What version of Safari was installed, what version did you download? What version are you trying to install? This sounds like you got an incomplete download. Did you trash the old version? Why do you want to use an outdated version of Safari?

Are you using the original gray system installation that came with this iMac? Did you buy it new or used? Did you reformat the drive before installation?

Your machine will upgrade to both 10.4 and 10.5.8. Get onto eBay or do a web search for a retail version of whichever system you would like to upgrade to. You may have to also upgrade your RAM.

To use Mac OS X v10.4, your Macintosh needs:

A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor

Built-in FireWire

At least 256 MB of RAM

DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation

At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools

Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:

A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor

512 MB memory or more

A DVD drive for installation

9 GB of available disk space or more
