Can my computer run Mac OS 10.6.8?

I have a MacBook Pro, Mid 2012, running Mac OS 10.12.6. I also have a bootable external ssd with Mac OS 10.6.8 on it. My older Mid-2010 MacBook Pro can boot from the external drive ok, but I cannot seem to boot from it on the Mid-2012 MBPro. Any advice? Would it work if I put it on a partition on the Mid-2012 MBP? Or would it work if I installed the ssd as a second drive in it?

Won’t boot from 10.6.8

A Mac will not boot from a lessor system than what it shipped with

Pre-Installed MacOS:X 10.7.3 (11D2097)Maximum MacOS:Current*

If you don’t have the original system installation disk, do an Internet Recovery. Here’s how:

Interesting, as my older MBPro running OS 10.6.8 also runs OS 9. This is with the aid of a great OS emulator program called Sheepshaver. All of my ancient apps run on it perfectly. For fun, I am running a beta version of Photoshop 1 on it, for example! I guess maybe I’ll pursue that kind of solution…

Running APPs in emulation mode is a completely different animal than what we are trying to do now. See update to my answer.
